Tutoring or specialist teaching?
Tutoring provides personalised support, often with an end goal of undertaking a specific test or exam (such as the 11+ or GCSEs). The approach and content are likely to mirror what the individual experiences/experienced at school. This can be effective – often a 1:1 situation puts an individual at ease and the pace at which the tutoring can progress will be right for them. This in turn builds their confidence and they make progress. However, tutoring does not necessarily employ strategies and approaches that consider the specific needs of someone with dyslexia and/or SpLD (maths) / dyscalculia or other SpLDs such as ADHD or ASD. Alice does not offer tutoring.
Specialist teaching
Alice is a qualified specialist teacher of dyslexia and dyscalculia. Lessons do not emulate school: instead, specialist teaching uses a multisensory, structured, cumulative and systematic teaching approach which addresses individuals’ needs. Therefore, every single lesson is unique to an individual’s needs and interests and requires thorough preparation. Often time taken to prepare exceeds the length of the lesson and this is reflected in the fee for specialist teaching.
Lessons can be held at school, the workplace or at Alice’s home. Alice only teaches face-to-face due to the multisensory nature of the lessons.
Fees:
Specialist teaching at AEDDS (paid for by the individual): £80/hour
Specialist teaching at a different location (school/workplace): £100/hour plus mileage
